Book: "One Block Wonders," by Maxine Rosenthal
The book that is required for the class has excellent examples of what to look for when choosing fabric but, in a nutshell, choose a large scale print that has a lot going on. Small prints, or fabric that is too "regimented will not work well. Though the fabric need not be floral, think: large scale floral. And consult the book for examples. or you can always come in and get help and advice!
You need a length of your fabric that is at least 6 repeats, then add 1/4 yard for "wiggle room"
This is around 4-5 yards. I usually get another yard and half for a good border. Its always nice to see the original fabric after you have altered it!
