Other Supplies
• Pattern – can be purchased in the store
• 10 degree wedge ruler – can be purchased in the store
• Sewing machine
o In good working order (the teacher is not trained in sewing machine repair)
o 1⁄4” piecing foot
o New needle (if using good quality, 50 weight thread, an 80 Universal needle should do
very well)
• Neutral thread for piecing (high quality Aurifil, Mettler, etc. will make your experience all
that much better)
• Scissors for clipping threads
• Seam ripper (because none of us is perfect)
• Small cutting mat (if not already provided. 12” x 24” should be good)
• Iron & ironing surface (if not already provided). If coming with a friend, you could share one
iron.
• Straight pins (optional)
• Pen/pencil for making notes
• Optional
o Stiletto
o Scraps of fabric to use for leaders & enders
o Reading glasses – if you are like me and who often needs them
Helpful Hint
• Pre-shrinking your fabric: (optional but highly suggested)
o Because we will be sewing strip panels and cutting on a bias, it is helpful to pre-shrink
the fabric. This can be done using a spray bottle and tap water.
o Generously spray your fabric with water and allow the water to soak in for a while
o Press your fabric using a dry iron until it is dry
o (optional) press fabric once again using Best Press, starch, or your favorite pressing
spray
