By Annie Zip It Up.SATX

Here’s your chance to make a beautiful case for yourself, family, and friends. This case can be used to hold all kinds of objects! It features 2 large pockets on the outside and numerous on the inside. You can determine in class if you’d like to follow the pattern, or mix and match inside pocket type such as vinyl, mesh or fabric, various pocket sizes, zippers or no zippers, etc.
This case is great for organizing quilt supplies, labels, toys, office supplies, or just about anything that fits! This pattern is available in 2 sizes. See shop sample for my quilt label organizer!
You will learn to work with Soft n Stable, zippers, vinyl, mesh and fold-over elastic. Tips and tricks will be provided throughout the class with step-by-step instruction for creating inside and outside pockets and importantly attaching the binding. Instruction for fussy cutting ideas will also be provided. This is a great follow-up to the “Running with Scissors” and “Take a Stand” class since some techniques are similar.
Follow-on class may be scheduled if needed.
All supplies are available at Sew Special Quilt shop with 15% discount for class supplies!
Supplies Needed: (Please read supply list below for fabric and interface options)
- By Annie Zip it Up 2.0 Case pattern
Materials:
Please see back of pattern for supplies, since it will be based on what size you choose.
- No fabric handle nor fabric handle stabilizer needed if using 1” polypro colored or decorative strapping.
- Additional 1 FQ for fussy cutting fabric for outside pockets if desired and more fabric coordination options
- Interface option: Soft n Stable or firm interfacing for size chosen ALSO I recommend you only use firm interfacing for Quilted Set A Case Body. Use thin batting (Pellon 987F) or SF101 for Quilted set B POCKETS (for less bulk). If you have questions, we can discuss in class.
- Handbag zippers for outside case 1 package of zippers by the yard is enough (see back of pattern for any questions) By Annie type is ideal, or any #4.5 or #5 size zippers should work. Long zipper is for closing entire bag, then 2 shorter zippers are for outside pockets.
- Sewing machine, neutral and zipper color matching polyester thread, pins, scissors, seam ripper, fabric marker, wonder clips, rotary cutter
* Student must know how to use the sewing machine
Optional: (available at Sew Special Quilt shop)

- 1/4” craft tape

Lunch and snacks for energy and save time!
NOTE: Homework If you’d like to try to complete entire project in class:
- Quilt the Case BODY A with Soft n Stable before class (this body main fabric will hardly show on the outside, but gets covered with pockets) Pg. 2 Quilted Set A Main body
- Lightly quilt the Case POCKETs with thin interface like (Pellon 987F or SF101) before class (this fabric will show on the outside, but the thinner interface will reduce bulk) Pg. 2 Quilted Set B
- Have 2 1/4” bias binding ready for outside tote
- 2” binding for inside/outside pockets and zippers (does NOT need to be bias) See pattern for amount needed, based on your chosen size and pocket options.
- If you prefer, quilt items in class, but may not have time to finish entire project
